Medicare beneficiaries to receive one-time $90 rebate
Approximately 20.8 million Original Medicare Part B enrollees in the United States will receive a one-time $90 rebate this month to help offset the cost of coverage. The payment, officially termed the Medicare Improvement Fund Premium Rebate, is being funded by the Medicare Improvement Fund, a statutory allocation created by Congress in 2008.
Most eligible recipients are scheduled to receive the funds via Social Security direct deposit on or around October 8. Individuals who do not receive electronic payments can expect a Treasury check later in the month. The rebate is an automatic payment and does not require a separate application.
Eligibility is restricted to Original Medicare Part B beneficiaries living in the U.S. who do not receive Medicaid assistance for their premiums and do not pay the Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA). Medicare Advantage members are excluded from this payment. This one-time rebate is not a permanent reduction in premiums or a recurring monthly benefit.
