Medicare open enrollment period and educational workshops announced

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is approaching, allowing beneficiaries to review and change Medicare Advantage or prescription drug plans for the upcoming year. The open enrollment period runs from October 15 through December 7, with new coverage beginning January 1.

Beneficiaries should receive an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) letter from their carriers in mid-September detailing plan updates. Information can also be accessed via Medicare.gov starting October 1.

To assist with the enrollment process, the Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area is offering 'Medicare 101' workshops in Fayette County. These free sessions, hosted by the Fayette County Committee on Aging, Schulenburg Library, and the Fayette County AgriLife Extension office, will cover Original Medicare Part A & B, Medicare Advantage, Medigap, and prescription plans. Workshops are scheduled for October 9 in Schulenburg and October 14 in La Grange, with pre-registration required.
