Medici Senza Frontiere vessel arrives in Reggio Calabria with 33 migrants
The Oyvon, a search and rescue vessel operated by Medici Senza Frontiere (MSF), has arrived at the port of Reggio Calabria carrying 33 migrants. The group includes 25 men, 3 women, 3 accompanied minors, and 2 unaccompanied minors. The individuals originate from Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia, Eritrea, and Niger.
Upon arrival, the migrants were met by law enforcement, mediators, and Caritas volunteers. They are being processed at an emergency hotspot managed by the Red Cross on the port's western pier, with coordination from the Reggio prefecture. This marks the third arrival of migrants in Reggio Calabria during the month of October.
The Oyvon is MSF's new rescue ship, following the previous use of the Geo Barents. The vessel is 20 meters long and equipped with two decks and a fast rescue boat.
