Medicina machete attack: Suspect remains in custody

A 57-year-old Tunisian laborer, Charfi Nouri, remains in custody following a brutal machete attack in Buda, a hamlet of Medicina, near Bologna. The victim, a young man in his late 20s, was attacked in his home and suffered severe injuries, including a perforated lung and a semi-amputated arm. While the victim is no longer in life-threatening condition, he remains hospitalized in intensive care.

Investigators believe the motive stems from Nouri’s unrequited obsession with the victim’s mother, whom he had reportedly been harassing for months. During his hearing, Nouri denied the charges, claiming he does not remember the incident and asserting that surveillance footage does not depict him. He also claimed a hand injury sustained during the period was actually a workplace accident.

Judge Maria Cristina Sarli validated the arrest, citing the risk of the suspect repeating the crime and the possibility of flight. Authorities are currently awaiting forensic results from fingerprints and the machete used in the assault to further the investigation.
