Medicina to host 35th Barbarossa historical reenactment

The 35th edition of the historical reenactment of ‘Barbarossa’ is scheduled to take place in Medicina, Italy, from September 18 to 20, 2026. The event celebrates the legend of Emperor Frederick I of Swabia, known as Barbarossa, who historically visited the area.

A significant change marks this year's festivities: after 25 years, the role of the Emperor will be taken over by a new performer. Marco Angonese, who has portrayed the ruler for a quarter-century, has symbolically passed the scepter to Mirco Gaddoni.

The event, organized by the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Medicina, will feature a new artistic direction under Marco Di Camillo. The program includes music, theater, juggling, and dance. An anticipatory event is also set for September 12 at Villa Fontana.
