Medieval coins discovered at Grunwald Fields

Archaeologists and detectorists conducting excavations at the Grunwald Fields in Poland have discovered ten medieval coins. The find includes seven well-preserved Prague groschen and three slightly damaged coins, located approximately 20 centimeters underground.

Szymon Drej, director of the Grunwald Battle Museum, noted that the coins were found scattered, suggesting they may have fallen from a torn pouch during a flight. Because Prague groschen were widely used across Europe in the 15th century, it remains unclear whether the coins belonged to Polish, Lithuanian, or Teutonic knights.

This marks the 13th time archaeological research has been conducted at the site of the 1410 Battle of Grunwald. To date, nearly 1,500 artifacts have been recovered from the area. Following conservation, the coins will be displayed at the Grunwald Battle Museum.
