Medijana municipality in Niš plagued by mobbing accusations and alleged corruption
For two years the Medijana municipality in Niš has been run by a coalition of opposition parties, promoted by figures such as Dragan Milić and Miroslav Aleksić as a model of non‑partisan governance. The administration cites successes like higher benefits for larger families, IVF support and funding for school sports facilities.
However, the opposition‑run council faces a series of scandals. The chief municipal administrator resigned, claiming she was subjected to mobbing by the municipal president. Three senior officials also handed in resignations, and members of the "Kreni‑promeni" movement left the youth office.
Legal breaches have been reported: a sports tender was cancelled for violating the Sports Law, and a cultural grant was awarded to the association "Besmrtni gvozdeni puk", whose members are linked to Dragan Milić and the political group PODES. The municipality does not disclose the amounts allocated through its projects, making verification impossible.
During a press conference journalists were called "fools", and the monthly allowances for commission members were raised from 30,000 to 70,000 dinars. The council voted to increase kindergarten fees, opposed an urban plan for a new maternity hospital, and rejected free public transport and aid for workers affected by privatisation. Additionally, Dragan Milić has obtained a construction permit for a luxury villa with a pool, and a close associate known as "Baron" was arrested on suspicion of stealing a truckload of cigarettes.
