Medikal highlights financial risks for Ghanaian artists staging overseas concerts

Ghanaian rapper Medikal has highlighted the significant financial risks and challenges faced by Ghanaian musicians when organizing large-scale concerts abroad. He noted that while international shows may appear profitable, many artists often absorb substantial personal losses to achieve global visibility and promote Ghanaian music.

Medikal cited his own experience performing at London’s O2 Indigo two years ago, where despite a large turnout, he ultimately incurred a financial loss. He suggested that for prominent artists like Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, these international events are often more about building a brand and gaining international recognition than generating immediate profit.

These comments follow Stonebwoy’s Bhim Fest concert, held at the 12,500-capacity OVO Arena Wembley in London on August 15, 2026.
