Medina police arrest woman for disguised apartment thefts

Police in the Medina district have arrested a 30-year-old woman, identified as F. B. Bâ, for a series of thefts committed at her friend's apartment between January and September 2026.

The suspect allegedly used duplicate keys, made without the victim's knowledge, to enter the residence multiple times. To avoid recognition, she disguised herself wearing a grey burka and a protective mask. The thefts included gold jewelry, wigs, perfumes, handbags, Getzner fabric, and 80,000 FCFA.

The investigation began after the victim filed a complaint on September 1, 2026. Upon reviewing surveillance footage provided by the building's security and landlord, investigators identified a recurring figure in a burka. Technical analysis of the video allowed police to capture a moment where the individual removed her veil and mask, revealing the suspect's identity. Following this discovery, authorities apprehended Bâ in the Keur Massar district. She has reportedly confessed to the crimes, explaining that she took advantage of the victim's inattention to duplicate the keys.
