Medinaceli residents mobilize to save San Román church bell gable

Residents of Medinaceli, Spain, are mobilizing to protect the bell gable of the San Román church. The temple, which is the oldest in the walled enclosure, has been on the Hispania Nostra Red List since 2020 due to gradual abandonment and structural decay.

Local residents, through a neighborhood association, are seeking to fund urgent repairs to halt erosion caused by rain. While the group has allocated approximately 6,000 euros for initial works, they are currently awaiting formal authorization from the Diocese to proceed.

The religious complex, dating back to the 13th century, has suffered significant damage since the 1980s, including the collapse of central nave vaults.
