Mediterranean Games: Egypt climbs medal standings as Malta sees tennis success
At the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Egypt has risen to fifth place in the overall medal standings with 13 medals, surpassing nations such as Spain, France, Croatia, and Serbia. Despite fielding a smaller delegation of 196 athletes compared to larger teams like Italy and Turkey, Egypt has found success primarily in swimming, fencing, and wrestling.
In other competition updates, Team Malta saw mixed results on the fourth day. Liam Delicata secured a convincing victory in men’s tennis to advance to the next round, while Gianluca and William Chetcuti showed strong starts in trap shooting, both remaining well-placed after the initial qualification rounds. In badminton, Samuel Cassar was eliminated in the men’s singles quarter-finals following a straight-sets defeat to Italy’s Giovanni Toti.
