Mediterranean Games Padel: Spanish favorites upset in Taranto

The Padel competition at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto has reached the quarter-finals, marked by significant upsets and dominant performances. In the men's draw, the seeded Spanish pair Pol Hernández and Guille Collado were eliminated in the round of 16 by Egyptian players Hossam and Wakim. The Egyptian duo, who are not ranked within the FIP top 100, secured a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 victory, a result described as a major surprise for the tournament.

In the women's draw, top seeds Sofia Araujo and Ana Nogueira of Portugal advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over the Turkish pair Kocak and Polat. They will face the fifth-seeded Italian duo, Giulia Dal Pozzo and Carlotta Casali, who also won without dropping a game. Other advancing Spanish pairs include Nuria Rodríguez and Jimena Velasco, as well as Lucía Sainz and Patty Llaguno, both of whom remain strong contenders for medals.
