Mediterranean International Trade Forum convenes in Tunisia

The Mediterranean International Trade Forum is currently being held in Tunisia, bringing together more than 60 financial, insurance, and economic institutions from eight Mediterranean and European countries. Organized by the Libyan Banks Union and the Libyan Insurance Union, the event includes participants from Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Malta, Italy, Turkey, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.

Discussions focus on developing new mechanisms for trade finance, risk management, and facilitating investment and exchange within the region. Key topics include digital transformation, cross-border payments, cybersecurity, and fintech to improve operational efficiency and mitigate risks associated with fraud and policy changes. The forum aims to strengthen partnerships between the financial, insurance, and private sectors to support exporters and enhance access to foreign markets.

Organizers intend for the forum to serve as a platform for launching practical initiatives and actionable recommendations, with a goal of implementation by 2027. Experts noted that while the Mediterranean region serves as a strategic link between Europe, Africa, and Asia, complex and differing legislations between countries remain a significant barrier to trade flow.
