Unlike algae, Posidonia possesses true roots, stems, and leaves, playing a fundamental ecological role in the sea. Marine biologist Diego Arzola notes that while the accumulation of dried Posidonia leaves on beaches like Punta Ala may be viewed by tourists as untidy, these plants are vital components of a healthy marine environment.

In Southern Italy, particularly in regions like Puglia and Cilento, rocky coastlines and protected areas offer preserved marine habitats. Locations such as Porto Badisco and the coast between Marina di Novaglie and Santa Maria di Leuca provide clear waters and intact seabeds suitable for snorkeling. Visitors to these Natura 2000 sites are reminded to respect regulations regarding fishing and anchoring to protect the local fauna and delicate ecosystems.
