Mediterranean shipwreck leaves migrants dead and missing

A shipwreck involving an inflatable boat carrying migrants in the southern Mediterranean has resulted in at least two deaths and six people missing, including three children, according to the NGO Sea Watch.

The rescue vessel Aurora recovered two bodies and rescued five survivors from a nearly empty inflatable boat. Additionally, approximately 23 people, including five women and a small child, managed to cling to the Hasdrubal oil platform to escape the sinking vessel. These individuals were subsequently transferred to the Aurora.

The incident occurred near the maritime search and rescue border between Libya and Tunisia. The distress call had been previously communicated by Alarm Phone. Tunisian authorities granted permission for the Aurora to reach the oil platform to complete the transfer of survivors.
