Mediterranean storms cause fatalities and flooding in Spain
Severe storms across the Mediterranean coast have caused significant disruption and casualties in Spain. In Catalonia, one person has died and another is missing in the town of Olivella, where rainfall reached 90 liters per square meter in a single hour.
In the Valencian Community, heavy rains have led to flooding and infrastructure issues. The Integrated Health Center in Xàbia experienced water infiltration, and the Associació Valenciana de Meteorologia (Avamet) reported rainfall levels of 81.8 liters per square meter in Xàbia, 68.4 in Ondara, and 64.8 in Dénia.
The weather system has extended into the Region of Murcia, where a red alert was issued for the Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón areas. The storms have also resulted in suspended flights, school cancellations, and road closures across the affected regions.
