Mediterranean tourism sees rise in winter travel interest among Italians

There is a growing trend among Italians to visit Mediterranean coastal destinations during the winter months. According to an AstraRicerche survey for MSC Crociere, 68% of Italians show interest in the Mediterranean during winter, and over 50% believe the region should be experienced year-round rather than just in summer. Key drivers for this shift include more affordable rates (56.8%), reduced crowds (45.3%), and increased tranquility (40.1%).

In the Amalfi Coast region, local operators are discussing the potential for a winter edition of the ‘GustaMinori’ event, tentatively planned for early December. This initiative aims to extend the tourist season and boost the local economy by capitalizing on the proximity to the ‘Luci d’Artista’ light displays in Salerno. Local hospitality professionals emphasize the need for strategic planning, improved transport links between Salerno and Minori, and professional marketing to ensure the event successfully promotes the region beyond a local festival level.
