Mediterraneo Video Festival highlights social and environmental themes

The Mediterraneo Video Festival has highlighted environmental and social themes through various awards. The Lions Club Teggiano-Polla-Tanagro presented the ‘Ambassadors of Peace 2026’ awards to two specific works.

One award went to the documentary short ‘Dear Silvestro’ by Nico Cirasola, which explores the Puglian roots of Sylvester Stallone through his grandfather. The second award was given to ‘Tomorrow, the journey of Maysoon Majidi’ by Vincenzo Caricari and Barbara Di Fabio. This film documents the judicial ordeal of Maysoon Majidi, a Kurdish-Iranian activist who was wrongfully imprisoned in Italy following her arrival by boat in Calabria.

Separately, the ‘Sorriso Diverso Venice Award’ at the Venice Film Festival recognized a pro-Mediterranean video produced by Ecodigital. The project focuses on the ‘30x30’ international goal to protect 30% of marine areas by 2030. Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio, president of the UniVerde Foundation, noted the importance of the recent establishment of the Capri Marine Protected Area and emphasized Italy's role in defending marine biodiversity and combating climate change.
