MedLife launches Romania’s first locally processed gut microbiome test

MedLife has launched Romania’s first gut microbiome test to be processed entirely within the country. Utilizing shotgun metagenomics technology and the Illumina NovaSeq X Plus platform, the test analyzes the full genetic content of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses, at the species and strain levels.

Previously, such samples required processing in laboratories abroad. By developing the full workflow locally—from sample processing and sequencing to bioinformatics analysis—MedLife aims to expand its personalized medicine and prevention strategy through its Longevity 100+ programme.

The test is designed for home sample collection, with results available approximately 28 working days after laboratory receipt. While the test provides a detailed view of microbiome composition and diversity, it is not intended for diagnostic purposes; results must be interpreted alongside a patient's general health and medical history.
