MedLife study explores health impacts of walking on Via Transilvanica

MedLife and Asociația Tășuleasa Social have released intermediate findings from an observational study conducted on the Via Transilvanica route to evaluate the health impacts of walking.

The study involved over 60 Romanian participants who committed to walking at least 150 kilometers over 10 consecutive days. Researchers are exploring the concept of ‘good stress’ (eustress), where a voluntary, meaningful challenge activates the body's natural adaptation mechanisms.

Data indicates that while initial motivations often include testing personal limits or breaking routine, these shift as physical fatigue sets in. Participants tend to find new motivations in the pleasure of walking, the satisfaction of progress, and the commitment to themselves. The field stage concluded in late September, with final results expected in early November.
