Medtronic approaches MiniMed exchange deadline amid portfolio restructuring

Medtronic is undergoing a significant portfolio restructuring, highlighted by the upcoming expiration of the MiniMed exchange offer period on October 9, 2026. This transition is expected to alter the company's profile and investor expectations regarding future earnings as the diabetes business segment is potentially divested.

In its fiscal year 2026 Impact Report, Medtronic reported serving more than 82 million patients globally. The company is also navigating regulatory and reimbursement developments in the United States. The American Medical Association has approved new Category I CPT codes for the Altaviva system and the Symplicity-Spyral system, which are set to take effect in January 2028 to improve reimbursement structures.

Additionally, clinical results for the VenaSeal closure system showed an 88.1 percent healing rate in a study of 125 participants with venous leg ulcers. Medtronic continues to expand its clinical pipeline and secure regulatory clearances for various software and adapter components in electrophysiology.
