Medtronic VenaSeal shows 88.1% ulcer healing rate in 24-month study

Medtronic has released 24-month data from a prospective study evaluating its VenaSeal closure system for treating patients with active venous leg ulcers and advanced chronic venous disease. The study, which included 125 patients globally, reported an 88.1% ulcer healing rate with a median time to healing of 92 days.

Key findings from the 24-month follow-up include a 77.1% freedom from ulcer recurrence and an average of 487 ulcer-free days following initial healing. Anatomic closure was achieved in 78% of cases. The company also noted improvements in patient symptoms and quality of life scores from baseline.

This clinical evidence follows recent developments in the United States, where VenaSeal has received coverage approval from all major commercial payers, covering approximately 96% of commercially and Medicare insured lives. The VenaSeal system is currently commercially available in 70 countries, including the United States and all European Union member states.
