Medusa 15/2026 military exercise to be held in Crete

The international multi-branch military exercise ‘MEDUSA 15/2026’ is scheduled to take place near the island of Crete from September 10 to September 19, 2026. The exercise serves as a military manifestation of the trilateral alliance between Greece, Egypt, and Cyprus, aimed at promoting security, stability, and respect for international maritime law in the Eastern Mediterranean.

In addition to the core trilateral participation, the exercise features the presence of French and Italian FREMM frigates. This increased European involvement, combined with high-level political visits to areas such as Kastellorizo, is viewed as a strategic deterrent. The exercise has reportedly caused significant irritation and embarrassment in Ankara, as it reinforces the defense cooperation between Athens, Cairo, and Nicosia.
