Medvedev denies need for military mobilization in Russia

Dmitry Medvedev stated that there is no need for military mobilization in Russia, asserting that the requirements of the Russian Armed Forces are being fully met through the engagement of contract soldiers and volunteers. In an interview with Vedomosti, Medvedev referred to these personnel as ‘true patriots of Russia’ and dismissed claims of a planned autumn mobilization as a ‘false provocation’ by Ukrainian authorities.

This follows similar remarks from President Vladimir Putin, who previously rejected mobilization rumors at the Eastern Economic Forum, suggesting such claims were attempts to influence State Duma election results. Putin noted that current scenarios do not necessitate mobilization as citizens are voluntarily signing contracts.

Medvedev also addressed Russia’s nuclear doctrine, stating that Russia maintains the right to use nuclear weapons in circumstances defined by its doctrine. He noted that an aggression by a non-nuclear state against Russia or Belarus, if supported or involving a nuclear power, could be considered a joint attack, justifying a response in the event of a critical threat to sovereignty.
