Medves Hotel fire in Salgótarján destroys gymnasium and pool roof

A major fire broke out at the Medves Hotel in Salgótarján, Hungary, on a Friday evening, destroying the roof of a building housing a gymnasium and swimming pool. The fire is believed to have been caused by an overheated sauna, which ignited a wooden structure and allowed flames to spread rapidly to the adjoining facilities.

Approximately 500 square meters of the gymnasium and pool complex roof structure were destroyed and collapsed during the blaze. Firefighters from Salgótarján, Bátonyterenye, Szécsény, and Pétervására responded to the scene, using seven water jets to combat the flames. The operation continued until Saturday morning.

While 46 guests were evacuated from the hotel during the firefighting efforts, no injuries were reported. Once the scene was secured, the guests were permitted to return to their rooms. The owner, Krisztián Dóczi, noted that the fire resulted in significant material damage.
