Meerut court convicts Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla in Blue Drum murder case

A Meerut district court has convicted Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla for the murder of merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput and the subsequent concealment of his body. The case, widely known as the ‘Blue Drum murder case,’ involved the dismemberment of Rajput's body, which was then hidden inside a blue plastic drum filled with cement and sand.

The trial lasted approximately 13 months and included 126 hearings and testimony from 22 witnesses. Evidence presented by the prosecution included the purchase of items such as a knife, razor, cement, and the blue drum, as well as technical data placing the suspects at the scene and tracing their movements to Himachal Pradesh following the crime.

District Judge Arvind Kumar Mishra pronounced the guilty verdict, noting that such heinous crimes have no place in a civilized society. The court has granted the convicts 15 days to make submissions before determining the final sentence. The prosecution has requested the death penalty, while the defense has maintained innocence.
