Meerut court convicts wife and lover in staged snakebite murder case

A court in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has convicted a woman and her lover for the murder of her husband, Amit Kashyap. The duo, identified as Ravita and Amardeep, will be sentenced on October 16.

The case, which dates back to April 2025, initially appeared to be a accidental death caused by a snakebite. A live cobra was found beneath the victim's body, and Ravita had claimed the snake was responsible for his death. However, forensic investigations and a post-mortem report revealed that Kashyap actually died of asphyxiation due to manual strangulation, noting broken bones in the neck and thyroid cartilage.

Police investigations uncovered that the suspects had an extramarital affair and conspired to stage the scene by placing a snake near the body. Key evidence included mobile phone call records showing over 500 communications between the two suspects in the days following the death, as well as forensic evidence debunking the snakebite theory after experts noted the snake lacked functional venom sacs.
