Meerut court sentences woman and lover to death for husband's murder

A court in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced Ravita Kashyap and her lover, Amardeep, to death for the murder of Ravita’s husband, Amit Kashyap. The duo was convicted of murder and criminal conspiracy.

The crime occurred in April 2025 in Akbarpur Sadat village. To conceal the murder, the accused allegedly strangled Amit and placed a live snake near his body to make the death appear to be a tragic accidental snakebite.

Investigators were alerted by suspicious circumstances, including marks on the victim's skin and a live snake found beneath the body. A post-mortem examination ultimately revealed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to intense physical pressure on the neck, mouth, and nose, rather than venom. Key evidence used in the trial included forensic findings, mobile phone records, and testimony from a snake charmer who stated Amardeep had purchased a snake for 1,000 rupees.
