Leonardo Fabbri wins Meeting Brazzale, eyes European Championships in Birmingham

Italian shot‑put champion Leonardo Fabbri threw 21.93 m to win the Meeting Brazzale in Lonigo, Vicenza, beating Britain’s Zane Weir (21.36 m) and Lorenzo Del Gatto. The victory comes in his final preparation before the European Athletics Championships, scheduled for 10‑16 August 2026 in Birmingham, where he will defend his 2024 title.

Fabbri, a 2022 European champion and 2023 world bronze medallist, has already recorded a season best of 22.74 m at the Diamond League in Eugene. His consistent performances – four throws over 21 m at the meeting – underline his status as a leading contender for the European title. Other Italian athletes also posted strong marks at Lonigo, including Francesco Guerra’s personal best in the 5,000 m and Federica Del Buono’s near‑personal best in the 10,000 m, signalling broad Italian form ahead of the championships.
