Meeting di Rimini: Sister of slain priest and mother of attacker embrace

At the 47th edition of the Meeting di Rimini, Roseline Hamel, sister of the priest Jacques Hamel, and Nassera Kermiche, mother of one of the attackers, shared a public embrace to promote a message of peace and reconciliation.

In 2016, Father Jacques Hamel was murdered during an attack at a church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, France. One of the attackers, Adel Kermiche, was also killed by security forces during the incident. Both women recounted the profound grief and the suddenness of the tragedy that changed their lives.

Roseline Hamel spoke about finding the strength to overcome hatred through faith, while Nassera Kermiche emphasized the importance of meeting others without prejudice or judgment. The two women have co-authored a book titled ‘Sorelle di dolore’ (Sisters of Pain) to document their journey of overcoming tragedy through dialogue.
