MEF updates training regulations for legal auditors in Italy

The Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), through the Ragioneria generale dello Stato, has issued circular 15/2026 outlining new instructions for the continuous training of legal auditors for the 2026-2028 period.

The new regulations aim to enhance the quality of training by increasing oversight of course content and instructors, limiting the repetition of materials, and providing greater flexibility for the accreditation of training entities. A major update is the recognition of teaching activities; legal auditors acting as lecturers in accredited courses can now earn one credit per hour of teaching, provided the content aligns with MEF training programs.

This measure is intended to ensure that professional development remains closely linked to evolving accounting principles, auditing techniques, internal controls, and sustainability reporting, rather than being a mere collection of credits.
