Mega Financial promotes blended finance to address Asia’s sustainable transition funding gap
Mega Financial Holding Co., Ltd. hosted an international forum titled ‘New Funding Models for Sustainable Transition: Blended Finance, Practice and Opportunities’ to address the estimated $1.5 trillion annual sustainable transition funding gap in Asia.
During the event, Mega Financial Chairman Tung Jui-bin emphasized that government budgets and charitable donations alone cannot bridge this gap, necessitating the introduction of private sector capital. The forum explored ‘blended finance’—a mechanism that uses catalytic capital from the public sector to optimize risk allocation and incentivize institutional investors to participate in green and transition projects.
Representatives from Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission and National Development Council discussed strategies to support net-zero goals. The National Development Council highlighted how mechanisms like the National Development Fund and offshore wind financing support can leverage public funds to drive private investment into renewable energy, energy storage, and low-carbon technologies. The goal is to establish a more resilient sustainable finance ecosystem in Taiwan by creating better investment channels and transaction structures.
