MEGA TV completes filming for period drama ‘Kanakara’
Filming for the new period drama series ‘Kanakara’ is nearing completion. The production, which is set to air on MEGA, has been filming since July and is expected to wrap up in early October.
Set in the Dodecanese islands during the 1950s, the story is inspired by a specific Greek tradition from Karpathos regarding the ‘kanakara’—the eldest daughter who inherits the family estate and responsibility. The plot follows twin sisters, Erinia and Sofia, whose lives are shaped by the small time difference between their births. The narrative explores the tension between personal desire and family duty when Erinia, unable to conceive, asks Sofia for a sacrifice that tests their bond and uncovers long-held family secrets.
The series is directed by Stamou Tsami, with a screenplay by Sofia Kazantzian and Ma.
