Megafarmacia del Bienestar shifts from medicine reserve to distribution center

The Megafarmacia del Bienestar, a major medical supply facility located in Huehuetoca, State of Mexico, appears to have shifted its operational model from a national strategic reserve to a transit distribution center. While originally designed to maintain a massive security inventory to combat medicine shortages, workers report that medications are now processed and immediately dispatched to public health institutions such as IMSS, ISSSTE, and IMSS-Bienestar.

Reports from the facility indicate low visible activity, with large areas of the complex remaining empty. Although Birmex continues to manage the logistics, there has been no official explanation regarding why the facility is no longer serving as a permanent storage reserve as originally intended during its 2023 inauguration.

Additionally, the facility faces infrastructure challenges. A sinkhole at the main entrance has complicated vehicle access, forcing cargo trucks to use a northern entrance to avoid the damaged section. Local authorities and workers have utilized stones and blocks to restrict transit through the affected area due to safety risks.
