Megalodon estimated up to 79 feet long, far larger than the Titanic in bulk
Recent scientific work has reinforced the enormous size of the extinct shark Otodus megalodon. A study of vertebrae rediscovered in a Danish museum confirmed that the animal could have reached lengths of about 24 metres (79 feet), far exceeding earlier estimates of 15‑18 metres. The same research suggests newborns were around 3.6 metres (12 feet) long and that individuals may have lived close to a century.
Separate coverage compared the megashark’s dimensions with the RMS Titanic. While the Titanic measured roughly 882.5 feet (269 m) in length, a megalodon’s length of 50‑60 feet (15‑18 m) was much shorter, yet its bulk would have been massive, making it a far more imposing predator in terms of volume and weight.
