Megan Eckert breaks six-day world and US records in Hungary

Megan Eckert, a 40-year-old mathematics teacher from New Mexico, has set new records during the Global Organization of Multi-Day Ultramarathoners (GOMU) Six-Day World Championship in Balatonfüred, Hungary.

Eckert completed 1,024 kilometers (approximately 636 miles) over 144 hours, breaking both the women’s six-day world record and the American men’s absolute record, which had been held by Joe Fejes since 2015. Her performance surpassed the previous American record by more than 48 kilometers.

Eckert finished as the overall winner of the event, ahead of Norwegian runner Simen Holvik, who covered 940 kilometers. The results are currently awaiting official ratification by the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU).
