Megan Rapinoe defends transgender inclusion in women's sports

Soccer legend Megan Rapinoe has defended the inclusion of transgender athletes in women's sports, arguing that competitive fairness is not the primary concern in athletics. During an appearance on the “Who’s With Me with W. Kamau Bell” podcast, Rapinoe challenged the notion that sports are inherently fair, suggesting that natural physical advantages are a standard part of elite competition.

To illustrate her point, Rapinoe and host W. Kamau Bell referenced San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembanyama, noting that his height provides a significant natural advantage. Rapinoe stated that human rights and the ability to participate should take precedence over debates regarding fairness, asserting, “It isn’t the most important thing in the world over someone’s human rights or getting to play or being cool to people.”

Rapinoe’s comments have drawn criticism from figures such as OutKick founder Clay Travis, who argued that the rules of sports are specifically designed to ensure fairness and criticized Rapinoe for her stance. Rapinoe, a two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist, has been a consistent advocate for transgender participation in sports.
