Megan Thee Stallion to face jury trial in photographer lawsuit
A federal judge has ruled that Megan Thee Stallion and Roc Nation will face a jury trial in a lawsuit filed by former photographer Emilio Garcia. US District Judge Gregory H. Woods denied requests to dismiss the case, stating that the conflicting accounts regarding Garcia’s employment and working conditions require a jury to resolve.
Garcia, who worked for the rapper from 2018 to 2023, alleges he was subjected to a hostile work environment, including being fat-shamed and witnessing inappropriate conduct during a trip to Ibiza. He also claims he was misclassified as an independent contractor rather than an employee and was denied proper wages.
The court dismissed several of Garcia’s claims, including retaliation claims under New York human rights laws and sexual orientation discrimination claims under California law. However, the central disputes regarding unpaid wages, labor code violations, and worker classification remain active. Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team has denied all allegations, characterizing the lawsuit as false.
