Megara, Aigialeia Begin Damage Inspections After August 2026 Wildfires

The Municipality of Megara announced that, starting Friday 7 August 2026, self‑inspections will be carried out on homes and businesses damaged by the 2 August 2026 wildfire. The inspections will record damage, assess building suitability and trigger state aid. Eligible owners may receive up to €600 for basic needs, up to €6,000 for repairs, temporary housing subsidies of €300‑€500 per month, and reconstruction grants of up to €1,000 per square metre.

The Municipality of Aigialeia, also affected by a wildfire on 31 July 2026, activated emergency procedures, declared the affected communities in a state of emergency and began inspections together with the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and the General Directorate for Restoration of Natural Disaster Impacts. Damage to housing, businesses, water and irrigation networks is being recorded, with applications for social‑protection benefits accepted until 31 August 2026. The municipality is coordinating with national ministries and the regional government to restore infrastructure and support residents and producers.
