Megawati marks 30 years since Kudatuli office attack at Jakarta exhibition

Indonesia's President Megawati Soekarnoputri opened the "Meretas Jalan Demokrasi" historical exhibition at the Museum of Collections in Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, on 27 July 2026. The display commemorates the 30th anniversary of the 27 July 1996 Kudatuli incident, when the PDIP party headquarters on Jalan Diponegoro was destroyed.

During the visit Megawati watched archival video of the attack, reviewed photographs, and addressed the public. She delivered a message to Indonesian youth stressing four core values—belief, firmness, courage and patience—and affirmed that all citizens have equal rights before the law. She was accompanied by her son and PDIP deputy chairman Prananda Prabowo, secretary‑general Hasto Kristiyanto and party historian Bonnie Triyana.

The event highlights the ruling party's effort to reflect on a pivotal moment in Indonesia’s democratic transition and to inspire the younger generation with a sense of historical continuity and civic responsibility.
