Timor-Leste President Ramos-Horta leads Nobel laureates to meet Indonesian leaders
Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta led a delegation of approximately 20 Nobel laureates and Turing Award winners on a diplomatic visit to Indonesia. The delegation, which recently attended the Science for Development Summit 2026 in Dili, met with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace and former President Megawati Soekarnoputri at the Megawati Institute.
Discussions between the leaders focused on strengthening bilateral relations and fostering collaboration in strategic sectors, including environmental science, research, higher education, and innovation. President Prabowo emphasized the importance of integrating these global experts into Indonesia’s research ecosystem to inspire local talent.
During the meetings, Ramos-Horta also extended an invitation to President Prabowo to visit Timor-Leste. The diplomatic engagement aims to create opportunities for knowledge exchange between international scientists and Indonesian academics and researchers.
