Megh Pyne Abhiyan expands rainwater harvesting in Bihar and Dhanbad
The Megh Pyne Abhiyan, led by water‑conservation advocate Eklavya Prasad, is installing rooftop rainwater‑harvesting systems in rural and flood‑prone areas of north Bihar and Dhanbad. Collected rainwater is stored in tanks, providing communities with safe drinking water throughout the year, even during droughts or floods.
The campaign also restores abandoned traditional wells, helping to recharge groundwater and offering an alternative source of potable water where hand‑pump supplies are contaminated with arsenic and iron. Prasad urges schools, households and public institutions to adopt rainwater‑harvesting practices, saying broader participation could substantially reduce the regional water crisis.
