Meghalaya: 34,000 voters flagged for verification in North Garo Hills

Under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission of India, 34,730 voters in four assembly constituencies of the North Garo Hills district in Meghalaya have been flagged for identity verification. These individuals were identified due to discrepancies in their records or because they were not listed in the 2005 voter rolls.

District Election Officer MSN Marak reported that notices have already been issued to 30,580 of the identified voters. The verification and hearing process, which began on August 18, is currently underway across 190 polling stations. As of August 27, hearings had been completed in 47 of these stations.

The verification workload is distributed across four areas: Kharkutta has the highest number of cases with 11,796, followed by Bajengdoba with 8,419, Resubelpara with 7,685, and Mendipathar with 6,830. The period for filing claims and objections remains open until September 4, with the final voter list scheduled for publication on October 7.
