Meghalaya: 384 electors declared ineligible during voter roll revision

Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BDR Tiwari has announced that 384 electors have been declared ineligible following scrutiny and hearings during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026.

Out of 2,169,243 electors in the Draft Electoral Roll, 651,735 individuals have been identified for scrutiny due to mapping discrepancies or being in the ‘No Mapping’ category. Of these, 620,730 notices have been delivered, and 208,870 hearings have been conducted so far.

Dr. Tiwari emphasized that receiving a notice does not result in automatic deletion; rather, it provides electors an opportunity to clarify discrepancies and provide supporting documentation. He stated that no names should be removed from the Draft Roll without due process and a fair hearing.

The SIR schedule has been extended by 14 days following recent disruptions in Shillong. The deadline for filing claims and objections is September 18, with the final publication of the Electoral Roll scheduled for October 21.
