Meghalaya breaks ground on new state house in Navi Mumbai

Chief Ministers Conrad K. Sangma of Meghalaya and Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra jointly laid the foundation stone for a new Meghalaya House in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. The project follows the formal handover of land by CIDCO.

The new facility, situated on 2,071.67 square metres of land, aims to address the limitations of the existing 12-room Meghalaya House in Vashi, which has been in operation since 2008. The expansion is intended to provide improved, affordable, and safe lodging for Meghalaya citizens visiting the Mumbai metropolitan area for healthcare—specifically for patients and attendants traveling to Tata Memorial Hospital—as well as for students, entrepreneurs, officials, and tourists.

CM Sangma described the development as a "dream come true" and a project "for the people of Meghalaya," noting the state's growing presence in the region across sectors such as music, sports, and business. CM Fadnavis highlighted the cultural and professional ties between Maharashtra and the Northeast, noting Mumbai and Pune as key destinations for Meghalaya's students and professionals.
