Meghalaya Cabinet updates disaster list and recruitment rules

The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved new measures to strengthen disaster response by formally recognizing thunderstorms and strong winds as state or local disasters. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma stated that this change addresses difficulties in assessing damage from destructive winds that do not meet cyclone intensity criteria.

In administrative reforms, the Cabinet decided to remove interviews for Group-C non-technical posts recruited through District Selection Committees (DSCs), effective January 1, 2027. Interviews will remain mandatory for Group-C technical posts. Additionally, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was approved for all DSCs to ensure transparency and uniformity in the recruitment process.
