Meghalaya cancels MBBS Round-I allotments amid admission disputes

The Meghalaya government has issued a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the 2026-27 MBBS admissions process, covering a total of 138 seats. This includes 96 seats under the Central Pool and other quotas, and 42 state quota seats at Shillong Medical College.

Following grievances regarding the fairness of the newly introduced SOP, the government has set aside the initial Round-I college allotments. Authorities have ordered a fresh, uniform, and transparent counselling exercise to be conducted by the Meghalaya State Counselling Authority for Medical Education (MSCAMA).

The re-counselling process is scheduled to take place over two days. The government has assured candidates that no one will lose their eligibility, NEET rank, or category status due to the cancellation of the initial round. Allotments will be based on NEET-UG 2026 merit, state reservation policies, and seat availability.
