Meghalaya CM launches road upgrade and eco-tourism projects

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has launched several development initiatives in South West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, focusing on infrastructure and sustainable tourism.

In a major infrastructure move, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a ₹140 crore project to upgrade the 40-km Weiloi–Mawkyrwat–Rangthong road. The project aims to convert the existing single-lane stretch into an intermediate lane road, improving connectivity between East Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills. The state government expects the work to be completed by Christmas of next year.

Additionally, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Pine Home Eco-Sustainable Project in Mawlangwir Village. This ₹5.90 crore initiative, managed through the Saitsnat Multipurpose Cooperative Society, features a restaurant, community hall, and guest rooms designed with eco-friendly practices such as rainwater conservation and natural heating. The project is part of a broader state strategy to promote sustainable tourism and local employment through the CM Homestay Mission, which targets 3,000 homestays across Meghalaya by 2028.
