Meghalaya: CM Sangma conducts village tours amid border tensions

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma conducted a two-day tour of the Phulbari and Rajabala areas in West Garo Hills to engage directly with residents. Accompanied by local MLAs, the visit aimed to identify and address community grievances in villages such as Rongadatgre, Chandigre, and Bhaitbari. The government intends to use this direct feedback to ensure local needs are met without intermediaries.

In a separate incident, tensions rose at the Meghalaya-Assam border in Maikhuli, Ri Bhoi district. Reports indicate that a group from Assam attempted to obstruct road construction and destroyed local school property using heavy machinery. This led to clashes between the groups, requiring intervention from the Ri Bhoi District Administration and police to restore order. Local community leaders have called on the Meghalaya government to take action to prevent further unrest.

Additionally, in Tura, a new 50-bed annex building at the District Maternity & Child Hospital was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sangma to improve healthcare services for mothers and children.
