Meghalaya completes over 82% of electoral roll revision hearings

Meghalaya has completed 82.31% of the hearings required for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of its electoral rolls. Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BDR Tiwari reported that 536,468 hearings have been conducted out of 651,735 notices generated. Following scrutiny, 542 electors have been deemed ineligible for inclusion in the final roll.

Dr. Tiwari emphasized that receiving a notice does not result in automatic deletion, as the process is designed to allow electors to clarify issues and provide supporting documentation. He directed district officials to expedite the remaining hearings and ensure no voter is denied the opportunity to be heard.

As of the latest review, 17,061 claims and objections have been filed, including applications for inclusion, shifting, and corrections. The deadline for filing claims and objections is September 18, with the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on October 21.
